Obscene Language. — Eliza Lestrange for thii'l'ofi'ence was sentenced to three montWhard labour.

Desertion. — A sailor named Adam Manley pleaded guilty to unlawfully deserting from H.M.s. Mildura, and was remanded till the 11th inst. Maintenance. —John Mair was charged with being about to leave the colony without making adequate provision for the future' maintenance of his illegitimate child. On the application of .Sergeant Clarke the case was adjourned till the 6th inst., to be heard at the Thames. Bail was allowed, accused in £50, *and two sureties of £50 each.

Alleged Theft of Guru.—A man named Patrick Carroll charged with stealing 8 pounds of kauri gum, the property of one T. Hodges, of Kaihu, was remanded for seven days on the application of the police. Theft. —A young ■ man named Henry Ernest Trimmer pleaded guilty to stealing an overcoat value £2 the property of Henry Richard Jury and also a coat, vest, shirt and hat, value £1 19s, the property of John Allen. —The Bench said that as it was the accused's first offence they would deal leniently with him, and imposed a sentence of one month's imprisonment on each charge, the sentences to run concurrently.
