TRUSTEES: GEORGE ALFRED BUTTLE AND FREDERICK GEORGE EWINGTOX. The Trustees under the Will of the late Humphrey Rawlings will offer Two Scholarships for competition i.i December next. The Scholarships wil be tenable for three years, and will consist of free tuition at the Prince Albert College, the fees for which will be paid by the Trustees. A sum of £10 per annum, payable quarterly, will also be allowed to each scholar towards maintenance. Parents of boys winning Scholarships, in future, will have the option of choosing tuition at the Auckland College and Grammar School, Prince Albert College, St. John's College, or King's College. Candidates must be thr? sons of poor parents, and must be under the age of twelve years, and attending the Public Common Schools of the Provincial District of Auckland. The Trustees are prepared to receive applications from parents or guardians of children attending the following Schools:—Wellesley-st. East, Beresford-street, Nelson-street, Napier-street, Newton East, Newton West, Grafton Road, Newmarket, Parnell, Ponsonby, Bayfield, Richmond. Mount Eden. Mount Albert,. Epsom, Remuera, Devonport, Onehunga, Northcote. No examination will take place or Scholarship be awarded unless there be at least twenty candidates, who will be required to pass an examination in Reading, English Grammar.Arithmetic, English History and Geography. The Trustees will appoint a dulyqualified Examiner, who will award the Scholarships to the Boys obtaining the highest number of marks—a minimum of 50 per cent, of the whole obtainable marks being necessary to secure an award. The Scholarships will be available for the first term of the Prince Albert College in the year 189 S. The Trustees have the power, which they will exercise in their own discretion, of extending the term of the Scholarships, of making further grants in special cases for the purpose of providing books, and of contributing more fully towards the maintenance of the boys obtaining Scholarships. The tenure of a Scholarship may be • terminated by the Trustees at any time, on account of the ill-conduct, irregular j attendance at school, or idleness of the holder. Every holder of a Scholarship will be required to obtain from the Headmaster at the end of each term a certificate of good conduct, regular attendance at school, and satisfactory progress in study, and show the same to the Trustees. The place of residence of a pupil must be approved of by the Trustees . Applications containing the names and address of applicants must be sent not later than Ist December next to the Secretary to the Trustees. Mr Charles C. Baker, at Coombes' Arcade.
