TERRIBLE TRAGEDY IN SOUTH DAKOTA.
SEVEN GIRLS DIE IN FLAMES
One of the worst disasters in the history of the State of South Dakota occurred at Plankinton at midnight, October 6th, when seven lives were lost by the burning of the girls' dormitory at the State Industrial School. The burned structure was of wood, three storeys in height, and was but recently completed. There was no fire-fighting apparatus at the school, and the building- being over a mile from town no aid could be rendered. In less than twenty minutes from the time the fire was discovered the building- was destroyed. There were about twentyfive persons in the school who escaped in their night-clothes. Search for the bodies of the unfortunate ones revealed the fact that
seven girls of the school had perished, and each one was burned beyond recognition.
