KINEMATOGRAPH EXHIBITION.
A kinematographic exhibition was commenced in the Opera House last evening with an instrument which hails from the works of the inventor, Thomas Edison, in the United States. The pictures were shown by means of the electric light, which was a_ great improvement, and presented the views with wonderful distinctness. Among the most striking pictures were a life-size presentment of Edison experimenting in his laboratory, a burning stable, buckingbronchos and horses leaping over hurdles, besides a great number of other scenes, all of which were heartily applauded. The selections given by the phonograph were also much appreciated. The instrument was fitted with two large funnels, which gave forth the songs and instrumental selections with great clearness. The reproduction of a xylophone solo sounded very pretty, and the vocal items were also very pleasing to the ear. The programme was throughout a thoroughly enjoyable one, and not at all too long. The kinematograph was worked by Mr C. Mackie, the electric light being supplied by dynamos driven by one of Ryan and Co.'s oil engines. The exhibition will be continued to-night and for the remainder of the week, and frequent changes in the programme will be made.
