ARHANGA PASS CAPTURED
* FLIGHT OF THE REBELS.
TRIBESMEN SUING FOR PARDON,
CALCUTTA, November I. Sir Wm. Lockhart's forces have captured the Arhanga Pass.- . ■ . -. Brigadier-General Westmacott's column seized the villages covering the Pass while the artillery destroyed Sancari. The Ghoorkas managed to gain thecrest of the Pass, the enemy fleeing after making a weak defence.
The British force enters Tirah Pass immediately. The tribesmen in Matsura Valley burnt their villages before retiring. Murlah Said Abakar has fled to Jarbad.
The Ameer of Afghanistan is endeavouring to effect the arrest of the Mollah of Hadda.
CABUL, November 1. The Ameer of Afghanistan, in a letter to the British resident, states that the Afridis and Orakzais bave aslced him to submit an apology and to ascertain on what conditions pardon will be granted. The Ameer also adds that if punishment is ordered there will be no necessity to hold any parleying on the subject as' the tribesmen deserve every punishment. He also states that if the Afridis take refuge in Afghanistan he will not permit them to interfere witli British territory.
CALCUTTA, November 1
The chief of the Maddakehel tribesmen and other important mulicks are surrendering to General Lockhart.
