VOCAL AND INSTRUMENTAL

CONCERT,

A large audience assembled in the Opera House last evening for the purpose of enjoying the concert in connection with the Original Banjo, Mandolin and Guitar Club. The concerted numbers played by the Club were most enjoyable, particularly good work being: done by the Tbass banjos and heavy guitars. Herr Zimmerniann officiated as conductor, and Mr A. A. Partridge as leader.--.The stage, arrangements were excellent, the decorations being of a most tasteful description, The items contributed by the Club Avere " Quickstep " (a), "The Dandy Fifth" (b), "Jackstraw's Polka," "Love and Beauty Waltz," overture (a), "Grenadier" (b), "Plantation Dance" and "Dreams of Darkie Land." "The Plantation Dance " was , undoubtedly one of the best items. "In the Dusk of the Twilight" and " Alice, Where Art Thou," were played as octettes by the following members: — Misses Erskine, Lilly Barker, G, Gribbin, J. Bbllahd, Messrs 0. A. Stevens, A. A. Partridge, Brockett, and F. Gribbin. "The Little Sinners Waltz" was played as a duet on guitars by Messrs 0. A. Stevens and A. A. Partridge;' and was encored. Messrs E. Brockett and A. A. Partridge played "Mona" as a duet on the mandolin and guitar very pleasingly. Mr Brocketfc also played "Love's Old Sweet Song" as a solo on the mandolin. Herr Zirnmermann was in capital form last evening, and played "La Melancolie Pastorale " on the violin in a most masterly manner. As an encore piece " Auld Robin Gray" was contributed by the violinist. Miss Sybil Lewis, a pupil of Herr Zimmermann, showed considerable ability as a violinist in her solo " Ballet Fantas'ie," for which she was. deservedly encored. Miss T. Hargraves sang''Espanita" in capital style, and later in the evening was encored for Millard's fine old song " Waiting" and contributed ''The Flight of Ages." Mr R. Norman sang " Island of Dreams" and "My Life for Thee," while Mr A. Neumegen recited Syms' gruesome story of " Christmas Day in a Workhouse."
