WEST END ROWING CLUB.
On Saturday afternoon the first round of tbe West End Rowing Club's opening trial fours of the season was rowed off in the harbour, tbe course being from Freeman's Bay to the boatbouse. Three races of the round are to be rowed this wee!- and the second and final rounds will be decided next Saturday afternoon, when the Club give an "At Home." Mr J. Clark, captain of the Club, acted as starter, and Mr J. C. Gallagher as judge. The iirst race was rowed in an unpleasant sea, but the water became smoother in time for the other beats. The first heat was easily won by J. Maxwell's crew ; the second by A. Wright's crew after a very keen race ; the third by F. Young's boat, and the fourth by G. 0. Stephenson's. Three gigs were used.
