SATURDAY.

(Before Mr H. W. Brabant, S.M.) Drunkenness.—Samuel Blair, for this offence was fined 10/ or in default 4S hours hard labour. Jane Whelan was similarly dealt with, and was further sentenced to one month's hard labour for using indecent language. Adam McKeown was also fined 10/ or 48 hours for drunkenness On a charge of theft of a purse, the property of Mary James, McKeown was remanded till Wednesday next. Bail was allowed, accused in £20 and two sureties of £10 each.

Sea Fisheries Act. —Joseph Silva, an 1 elderly man, was charged that at the Great Barrier, on October 19, he did unlawfully take 13 sacks of oysters. The accused was further charged with having had the oysters in his possession at Auckland on October 20th, in contravention of the Sea Fisheries Act, 1894. The informations were laid by the Collector of Customs (Mr Rose) for whom Mr McAlister appeared. The latter stated that the oysters were found by the Customs officers in the accused's cutter Albatross together with apparatus for taking oysters. The accused, who pleaded guilty, was fined £5 and costs. The second information was withdrawn.

Destitute Persons Act. — Joseph Kucher was charged with failing- to support his illegitimate child. Mr Cotter appeared for the defendant, and said the latter was willing to pay 5/ a week. An order for this amount was accordingly made by consent. Alexander Clune was charged with failing to comply with an order. Mr Parr appeared for the defence. After hearing evidence His Worship varied the order from 5/. a week to 2/6, and ordered the defendant to pay arrears from September 11th at that rate.—Patrick Molloy was charged with failing to comply with an order, whereby he was ordered to pay 7/ a week towards the support of his illegitimate child. Mr Brookfield appeared for the complainant. The defendant pleaded inability to pay the full amount, and the order was reduced to 5/ per week and the case adjourned for a week.
