The periodic sitting of the Mercer Court was held ab ten a.m. to-day before Captain Jackson, S.M. The only case was a debt case, A. Gibb v. Jas. Milne, for goods sold and delivered. Dr. Laishley appeared for defendant. The plaintiff, a storekeeper, and his bookkeeper gave evidence in support of the claim. But Dr. Laishley stated that defendant denied owin"' anything" and had witnesses in attendance. Meantime, however, in view of the 68th section of the Magistrate's Court Act, 1893, he denied the jurisdiction of the Court to deal with the case as it then stood. The Court upheld Dr. Laishley's objection as fatal.
