MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS.

Star of Tairua.—Trenching has been continued for the last live days. A prospecting shaft is now being put down to tap a 12-inch reef in another part. Good prospects are obtainable all over the property.

Barrier Reefs.—The low level is in 311 feet. The formation passed through is now of a sedimentary character, with numerous small veins of quartz crystals.

Nonpareil. — The reef at present is somewhat smaller in the drive. In the fourth stope eastern end gold was seen freely through the quartz last breaking down. Colours of gold were also seen in the stone taken from No. 5 stope, while nice dabs of gold were seen in No. G stope. There are now 4f> loads of quartz on hand which will be crushed this week.

Adelaide. —The winze is down 18ft, and the reef shows gold at each breaking down. A trial crushing of live loads from the new leader is now proceeding.

Nonpareil: In the winze on the Liverpool reef the country is of poor description for gold, and the reef is smaller. In the fourth stope gold was freely seen at lastbreaking clown. Colours are also seen in the iifth and sixth stones.

Welcome Find.—The slopes above No. 2 level produced 201b of good inched stone, the largest portion being from the southern stope. There are now on hand SOlb of stones in the bank, and about . r*o tons of general stuff from the southern lode. Alburnia East.—The* lode in the face is two feet wide. The manager suggests the advisability of rising on the reef from No. 3 to No. 2 level to locate the tnie'posilior. of the downward strike of the rich ore worked in the upper levels. New Whau.—The contractors are making good progress Avith the low level. The reef there is three feet wide, compact and well defined.

Chines.—

Hauraki Associated.—Mr 11. 11. Metcalfe reports that the work of erecting the battery is going on very satisfactorily, and all will be in running order the first week in November. During his stay at the mine the water was turned on in the race, which is now completed. The road from the mine to the battery has dried up to such an extent that carting can be commenced almost immediately.
