CONFIDENCE
MOTION.
THE POLICE INQUIRY,
WELLINGTON, this day,
Rumours are persistently circulated in the lobbies that the Opposition will table a motion affirming that the Premier's connection with a foreign syndicate is undesirable, which, of course, would be treated as a no - confidence motion. Mr Scobie McKenzie's name is mentioned as the mover. A meeting of Ministerial supporters is called for Tuesday morning, when I have good authority for saying the Premier will propose certain action in order to compel the left wing and other vacillating members to definitely range themselves one side or the other.
Mr Taylor's threat that he will not recognise the Police Commission if the names of the Commissioners do not meet with his approval is regarded in some quarters as furnishing an excuse to shirk the responsibility of producing evidence in support of the charges.
I have. seen Mr Scobie McKenzie and Mr Lewis, the Opposition whip. Both positively assure me there is not the slightest foundation for the rumoured no-confidence motion.
