COROMANDEL MINING.
(By Telegraph —Own Correspondent.)
Coromandel, this day.
Sterling Dredging Claim.—Active operations will in all probability be started shortly on this claim, which embraces the
foreshore in Union Beach Bay. The syndicate interested in this venture have sunk several small shafts for the purpose of obtaining bulk tests of tailings and general wash dirt. These samples have been forwarded to the Thames for treatment. It is believed large deposits are lying here likely to prove valuable, as a number of assays already made show. Tho tests now being made will set any doubt on this score at rest, however. The deposit to be worked consists of tailings resulting from past crusl lings from old inin.es and dirt disintegrated and carried down from the adjacent hills.
