This is his first visit to Auckland, but he visited Australia about six years ago. On,his present visit to Australasia he came from India via Colombo by tbe s.s. There are 12 branches in Australia and 8 in New Zealand. On leaving Auckland Colonel Olcott goes back to Sydney, enroute to Madras. That Indian city is the headquarters of that half of the Theosophical Society of which Colonel Olcott is president, as opposed to that branch which recognises the late William Judge as its spiritual head. It has been the Colonel's .residence since 1878 ; that is as far as his extensive journeyings have permitted him a settled abode.
