NEWMARKET BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Newmarket Borough Council was held last evening in the Council Chamber, Manukau Road, there being in attendance the Mayor (Mr Laxon), Messrs Spooner, Whyrnan, Edgerley, Low, McColl, Laurie, and Lee.
Correspondence.—Mr J. H. M. Carpenter wrote asking permission to connect the St. Mark's Hall with Mr Sand's service. It was resolved to grant the request. —Mr J. Dempsey wrote asking the Council to carry a water service to his house in Boyle Crescent. The matter was referred to the Street Committee. —Mr Smcthurst wrote asking permission to drain the water from his property into the street channel. Referred to the Streets Committee.—The Parnell Council wrote stating that a Committee had been appointed to confer with the Newmarket Council on the question of the licenses of vehicles. A Committee consisting of the Mayor and Messrs Whyinan, McColl, and Spoonor was appointed to confer with the Parnell Committee.
Legal and Finance Commietee.—The Legal and Finance Committee recommended that the payment of Mr Stockley for removal of nightsoil be raised to £143 10s 4d, and that the School Committee be informed that they must pay for removal of night soil. The recommendations were adopted. WaterworksCommittee.—The Waterworks Committee recommended that the charge for permits.for waterworks alterations be discontinued, and that the turncock be required to make a fortnightly inspection of the taps in the borough and furnish a fortnightly report of the Avork done by him. The recommendations were adopted. An amount of £I'2G 11s 8d was passed for payment to the City Council on the recommendation of the Committee for the water supply for the boroughs. Railway Station.—lt was resolved to request the Railway Department to put up a board with the name of the station on iL beside the entrance to the foot-bridge.
