WAIKATO NOTES.

Hamilton, Thursday. THE Hamilton Borough Council met yesterday afternoon. The neAvly - elected councillors Messrs R. F. Sandes, L. Davis and H. Tristram, after making the usual formal declaration, took their seats. The Works Committee Avas requested to inspect the saleyards and report at next meeting upon the advisableness of enlarging the yards and removing the sheep pens to "the opposite side of the road. Approved plans for the library site Avere received from the Survey Department, and the necessary signatures affixed. The Legal Committee reported that after due consideration they had come to the conclusion that the Council could not legally allow compensation to either Mrs Newell or Mr B. Murray. It was decided to put up all the unoccupied endowments for lease.

The Domain Board met immediately aftenvards, when permission Avas granted to the Waikato Rugby Union to charge admission on the occasion of the FranklinWaikato football match on the 18th inst.

The Waikato Hospital Board meeting Avas held here on Thursday, when McGregor's case again came up for consideration. The Board's solicitor Avrote giving it as his opinion that although in Waikato he was legally residing in Dunedin, and that Board Avas responsible for his treatment. The Board decided to send a young woman named Bukowsky to Rotorua for treatment for chronic rheumatism, on condition that the friends contributed 10s per week towards the cost. The resignation of Nurse Yates, avlio has filled the position of head nurse at the Waikato Hospital for a number of years, was receivecl Avith regret. It Avas' agreed that in future the stall' consist of a head nurse at £65; four qualified nurses at £50; and four probationers at the usual sliding scale of remuneration, .and applications for the positions Avill be invited at once. Dr. Kenny Avas requested to attend the next meeting of the Board to assist in the selection of the nurses. Tenders for endoAvments Avere received as follows : —

Lots 161, 164, 165 and 16S, Tuhikaramea (100 acres), 14 years, Wm. Livingston, £5 (accepted); lot 54, Hamilton, 14 years, Mrs K. .13. Sandes, £1 (accepted). The statement of finances presented Avas as follows : —Amounts due from contributing bodies, £734; subsidy due, £734 ; cash and bank, £229; estimated fees, rents, etc., £205; less accounts to pay, £173 ; balance, £1,759.
