The German press, with the exception of the agrarian organs, displays a calm tone but deprecates a tariff war. '
The French press considers Britain's action will strengthen Imperial unity at J considers it a triumph for Sir W.l* r j,j Laurier. The *"■ Republique Francaise" characterises Mr Chamberlain as the rulino statesman of Britain, and forecasts a general rise in European tariffs against British and colonial products.
The Canadian press of all Bhadea of opinion rejoices at Britain's action re th a denouncement of tho treaties.
The North Carman Gazette states that simultaneously with the denunciation 0 f the treaties Sir Frank Lsscelles, the British Ambassador at Berlin, proposed to open negotiations with Germany for _, j.f, w treaty.
