Brown, This Company has acquired the business so long and favourably known as "The People's" Furnishing Warehouse, established in 1874 including the Freehold Lands and Buildings in Queen-street, the Factory and other Leasehold premises in Lorne-strect, with all stock-in-trade. book debts, and other assets of the said business, including the goodwill thereof, for the sum of £25,000, for th«- whole of which the vendor has accepted Paid-up Shares in the Company. . 20,000 of which he intends to retain, a large pro- ■ portion of the remaining 5,000 having been taken up by employees in the Warehouse and Factory. An agreement has been entered into vdth Mr, J. Tonson Gaklick. whereby that gentleman is retained to manage and conduct the business of the Company for tho term of five ' years. ' The Capital of the Company is divided into ! 25,000 Paid-up Shares, and 15,000 Contributing. ( ■ Five Thousand Contributing Shares are now offered to the public at par, which will form part of the Working Capital of the Company, tho remaining 10,000 Shares to be reserved till such time as Shareholders may determine to . offer them. No Commission has been or will be charged i for the promotion or flotation of the Company, i I The Directors' honorarium will be 10s. 6d. for each meeting of Directors; but no Director, who is also an Employee of the Company, . shall be entitled to such honorarium. Important and extensive alterations are now being made to the business premises in Qr.ecustrcet, which will make the shop-front oE the warehouse one of the handsomest in the City of Auckland. This venture is confidently believed to be one ; of the soundest and SAFEST investments yet offered the Auckland public, and dividend-pay-ing from the first mouth of allotment of Shares. From the Profits made during the past two •year* (being upwards of 10 per cent, per aunum on £30,000), Shareholders may confidently expect regular dividends of 10 per cent, per , annum. Shares allotted before the 30th Juno will be enticed to a dividend as from Ist July next. AvV Interim Dividend of 10 per cent, per , annum, payable on the 7t.h day of October, 1897, ; as also a similar dividend that will be declared : at'er the Balance-Sheet is made up to 31sf. March, 1898. is guaranteed by Mr J. Tonson Garlick. All the Directors have a practical knowledge of and acquaintance with the business, inoßt of them having been engaged in it for many years past. With a view to a general distribution of the 5.000 Shares now offered to the public, the Directors reserve tho right to allot to any applicant such number as they think fit. Applications for Shares should be made to the Secretary at once, or before the 21st day of June, tosethcr with the application deposit of 10s. per Share. If no allotment be made the deposit will be returned without any deduction, and where the number of chares allotted is less than tho number applied for, ihe surplus will be applied ia reduction of the amount payable on allotment, and any residue will be returned to the applicant. Shares will be allotted according to priority of application, and any number from one upwards may be applied for.
