SUDDEN DEATH OF A GARDENER.
A man named Joseph Scurby, a gardener employed in Mr Parker's vinery, off Arney Road, Remuera, was found lying dead inside the vinery yeeterday afternoon. Mr Parker and Scurby had been uaing nitric acid for vinery purposes, and a little before bye ci clock Scurby told bhe eervanb girl bhab he was going into bhe vinery to attend to something er other. As ho did nob come back within a reasonable bimo tho girl was senb to look for him, and on open* mg bhe door found him dead. Ib is supposed bhab he was using nitric acid, and by closing tho door stopped the outleb of tho strong fumes from the acid, which consequontly overpowered and suffocated him. Mr iarker, on being informed, communicated with Constables Mackle and MoOonachie. Deceased was aboub -.0 years of ago, and has relatives in the Hawke's Bay district. An inquest was being held this afternoon by Dr. Philson, coroner, at tho Newmarket Hotel.
