ANNUAL MEETING.

Thk annual meeting of the Young Men's Christian Association took place at the Booms last evening. . There was a good attendance, Mr J. L. Wilson (President) occupying the chair. A letter was read from Mr F. Battley apologising for his unavoidable absence through indisposition. Annoal Report.—The Hon. t-ecretary (Mr Thos. Buddie) read his annual reporb. It expressed thankfulness for the revival in brade and commerce during the year. This improved bone had enabled them to dispose of their land in Swanson-street, bequeathed by the late C. I. Davis, aba fair price. The legacy ot £500 left by the late Mr Dilworth had been received from the trustees, aud this bad enabled them to pay off the mortgage upon the property adjoining the Association Building, and would relieve them of interest on thab sum. The winter course of lectures and concerbs were successful in bringing bogether a largo number of friends, and every efforb should be made to continue them. Tho reading room had been much appreciated, but there was room for many more visitors. The library had been added to regularly, and the circulation for the year was 3,598. The nighb school had developed considerably, and the Rambling Club continued to prosper. The various branches of bhe work of bhe Aesociabion had been steadily carried on. The Committee regretted thab tho membership of the Association did not increase in proportion to its usefulness, and again mado an urgent appeal to young men to bake advantage of He benefice. The Kymnasium was still leased to Professor Carrollo, hut they looked forward to the time when bhey could afford to utilise the gymnasium more entirely for the members of the Association. Mr A. Bell, leader ot the choir, hoped to establish a einging class this winter. The reporb concluded by referring to the valuable system of interchange of letters of introduction between tbe Associations in different parts of the world. Statement of Accounts.—Tbe Hon. Treasurer (Mr C. W. Hemery) read the balance-sheet for bhe year ending February 28th, 1897. This showed bhe total receipts bo be £798 2s 9_. made up as follows:— Subscriptions, £157 18* 8d ; rent. £274 2s lld ; hire of halls and rooms, £49 Is 6d ; lectures and concerts (neb proceeds £28 13s lld), £47 3a 9d; Sunday afternoon lecburos, £21 8s 8d ; C. O. Davis legacy (in part), £146 lOjs; city mission (subscriptions), £83 15a 6d ; sundries, £1 5s lOd. The expenditure left a credit balance of £8 3s 6d, the chief items being: Salaries and wages,, £226 19s; interest on loan on mortgage, j £127 10s, and city mission £120. Mr! Brakenrig read the accounts in connection ' with the Sunday "evening services in the City Hall, which had been attended by about 16,000 people during the year. The accounts showed a credit balance of £6 0s sd. On the motion of tho Rev. Mr Larkins, the report and accounts were adopted as read.

Bodle ; general seoretary, Mr William Brakenrig.

The Rev. Warner and Messrs H. Marlor, Falls and Hall gave shorb addresses in the course of the evening.
