THE LEADING CANDIDATES.

Sydney, this day. Polijno day for the federal elections yesterday was observed as a holiday. The elections passed off quietly throughout tho colonies. The latest returns show that the following are the leading cntididatea:— Barton, Carvuthera, McMillan, Reid, Lyne, R. E. O'Connor, Sir J. Abbott, Walker ond West, the last two having replsicod Copeland and Soo as further returns came in. About 140 *mall returns have still to come in, but it is almost curtain that, Cardinal Moran has little chance of boing included among the ton.

The Premier drove Mr Sedrlon to various points of interest yesterday afternoon, calling at the principal polling booths. Mr Saddon visits ParramxUa to-day.
