TO-DAY'S NOTES.
Melbourne, bMs day.
A recent rainfall has placed tho tracks in splendid condition. A b Fleming ton this morning wjprk was principally confined ibo preparing for test gallops to - morrow. Newhaven cantered round apparently none tho worse for Saturday's tall. Bloodshot moved very nicoly, being evidently in great heart. Hova is pleasing his admirers immensely, galloping in Lis basb form. He is certain to prove extremely dangerous whatever he starts in during bho meeting. He is much fancied in usually well informed circles for the Newmarket Handicap. LATER. Valiant, who has been heavily backed dowu 100 to 11 for the Newmarket, presents a beautifully mellow appoarancw, and he is in magnificent form. So lis Sba/fa, the only South Australian representative. Staffa is bound to run forward.
The betting ia dull pendinjg second acceptances to-day. After Aurum's brilliant performance in tho Electric Stakes at Caulfiold on Saturday much anxiety is displayed amongst backers regarding the eleob of the St. Alban's stable for the Newmarket Handicap. The choice will probj.bly lie between Cydnus and Pilabus.
