Tbe Northern Company's fine steamer Wakatere ran a very successful excursion trip round the Gulf on Saturday afternoon. She left the Quesn-streeo Wharf Bhorbly after bwo o'clock, wibh about four hundred excursloniabson board, and proceeded down the harbour and through the Waiheke passage. From there she went on past bho Spit Lighthouse, after whicb a start was m*de for home. It was intended to go round Rangitoto bob as a rough sea was running outside the idea was given up. The whole trip was made in smooth water, «o thab even the worst sailors on board enioyed bhe sail bhoroughly. The excursionists were safely landed ab the wharf in bhe evening aboub half-pasb six.
