MISCELLANEOUS.

In the early part of the week An tares was transferred from the stable of J. Chaafe to that of G. Wright. The eon of Castor and Hilda has been purchased by one of patrons of the lastnamed trainer. Mr Morrin is having splendid luck with bis brood mares thi3 season, all of the equine queens of the Wellington Park stud being in foal with the exception of Onyx, dsm of Nordenfeldt. It ia feared that the old daoghter of Angler and Chrysolite will not) have another foal, This ia nob to be wondered at, for she wa3 foaled so far back m the year 1872. Angler, the winner of the Taranaki Jockey Club Handicap, emerged from the so-called hack ranks. Last season he started three time 3 without catching the judge's eye, bub at the hack meeting promoted by the Taranaki Clnb during the Uhriafcmas season he came oub in his true colours, for one day he won two events on the programme, and the second day he «lso distinguished himself. Ab the recent Igmont meeting it will be remembered that he naught the judge's eye in the Normanby Stakes. Angler is well bred enough for anything seeing that his sire Cmißer is by Kobinson Crusoe from Radiance. He is four years old, and is owned by Mr T. Goddard. With Cnreton and the two-year-old filly &?• Evelyn w ni not) De raC ed again thia season. Mr T. Moore, the Hawke'a Bay sportsman, has named hia two-year-old colb by Cuirassier — Jessie, Chasseur. The youngster, who is a big one for his age, is among the nominations for bhe Nursery Handicap, to bfc deciCcd ab the Autumn Meeting of the Wanganui Jockey Club. lb ia said of Newhaven ab Flemington that he is going befeter in hia work every day, and gallops like a bib of machinery. Mr Stead has sold hia two-year-old colb Senior Wrangler to Mr J. Loughlin of Dunedin. Ha has aleo disposed of Musketry, Mr J. McGuinees, of Dunedin, being the buyer.

Nominations for the Ohinemuri Jockey Club Meeting are due ab Mr Blomfield'a office to-night.

Mr W. R. Wilson has received a cable from England asking him to put a price oa three of hia two-year-olds. Mr W. has replied that he ia not desirous of parting with them at present).

It was intimated recently thafe Messrs W. Douglaa and Spencer H. Gollan had nominated horses for the Warwick Hurdle Race and Steaplechaae, of 5,00050v8 each, which have bean specially established in England to mark bhe birth of 1900. 16 is unfortunate, however, that Mr Douglas will be unable to take part in the great croaa country gathering, as hia nominationa reached the V.R.C. office too late. It waa a pity bhat Mr Douglas has been preveatsed through the late arrival of hia entiry from participating in the great English meeting, especially aa the horses named are of hia own breeding, bub with Mr Gollan'e nominations in order and duly received in time, the colonies will not be altogether unrepresented.

The Australian mare Emmalea was a starter in tho Hurst Park (England) Christmas Handicap Hurdle Race, run on December 30ch. She carried 12st, and was ridden by R. Nighbingall. The V.R.C. Grand National Hurdle Race winner waaevidenbly not ready, aa she waa not quoted in the betting, and ran last.

A frequent visitor to tha Flemington training ground in the early mornings says that nothwifchstanding his dicky understandings Hova is standing hia preparation well, and is very likely to win the Newmarket Handicnp.

Sb, Paul demonsbrated in the Autumn Handicap on the second day of the Taranaki Jockey Club Autumn Meeting that he still retains bis form. His gameness was evidently once more demonstrated, for it was only after a severe straggle that he gob home in advance of Doris. The lastnamed mare demonstrated that she can geb to tha end of a mile and a quarter, for if I mistake not Thursday was the first time that she has been tried over a distance of ground in public. She ran a good race. For the Grandstand Handicap, the opening race of the second day's programme, Doris was a very strong tip, bub she was not equal to beating Sedgebrook and Tiboki.

At Caulfield on Saturday lasbEl Norte, a son of Nordenfeldb and imported Hebe, carried Mr S. Hordern'a livery to victory in the Alma Stakes.

Valianb (by Antaeus—Vie) won bhe Mooiefiold Handicap, 1J mile, on Saturday last. He carried 9*b 51b, and ran the distance in 2min ll^sec. He is now greatly fancied for the Newmarket Handicap.

The Sb. Alban's colb Aurum, full brother bo bhe Melbourne Cup winner Auraria, was greably fancied for the Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield on Saturday, bub ab even weights he suffered a head defeat from the Ballarat gelding So and-So. Mr D. O'Brien's colt Patriot did nob get a placa. Mebford and Keera, winner of the Maribyrnong Plate, were bhe lasb bo finish.

The Adelaide horse Staffa, by My Lord— lona, 18 not such a good horse aa thought. SbafTa has been well backed for the Newmarkeb Handicap, bub recently ab Sandown Park he could only run second to tho Sydney mare Dora in the Flying Handicap, five furlongs and a-half, with Orient third. All three are eligible for the Newmarket Handicap, together with Loch Fad (another well-backed awimal) and Robin. Staffa afterwards came out and ran second to Bacchus in the Sandown Park Handicap, one mile, the time occupying lmin 46£aec. He was favourite on both occasions.

Rosella, by Trenton—Pardon, did a wonderful gallop over two miles ab Caulfield lasb Saturday morning, when she ran the distance in 3min 44sec. Rosella is five years old, and is weighted at 6at 101b in tbe Australian Cup.

The concluding race 3of the Bay of Plenty Jockey Club Meeting yesterday resulted:—Hack Race: Waitress, 1; Repulse, 2; Kaiheke, 3. The two first have been protested againsb. Flying Shakes: Lady Anna, 1; Pororua, 2; Orona, 3. Dividend, 13s. Ladies' Purse : Mitiora, 1 : The Saint, 2 ; Syren, 5 Dividend, £1 Is. Forced Handicap • Pororua, 1; Boadicea, 2; Tini, 3.
