PROSPECTING LICENSE.

An application of an unusual nature cama before the Warden's Courb, Thames, feo-day, being the first made under the Amended Mining Act of last year : —
Herbert Gordon, miner of the Thames, applied for a license under the Mining Act Amendment of 1896, for the right to prospect 36,000 acrea at Tairua, known as the Tairua blocks 4, 12 and 13 (YVhitianga survey district), and 1, 2, 5 and 6 (Tuirua survey district): The land waa described as Crown land occupied by the Kauri Timber Company, under a timber lease or license, and the prospecting license was applied for to exist over a peTiod of one year. The Kauri Timber Company objected. Messrs Jackson Palmer and Clendon appeared for the applicant and Mr McCormick for tho objector. Aftef hearing evidence and legal argument, the Warden granted the application conditionally, and limited the area to 2,000 acres. This is the fksD prospecting license under Acb of 1896 granted on the Hauraki goldhelda.
