The residence of Mr John,' Mackay, of Wangaebu. has been burned.. It was insured in the South British, the amount being unknown. The Pa/a,para Bawmill and Mr J. P. Perry's /uomesbead were saved with difficulty.

A 'fire in Victoria-street, Hamilton, occun.ed on Friday afternoon, January Ist, by which Mrs Moore's boardingbousre. & very old building, was desbroyed. Ne?,rly all the furniture was saved. There was an insurance of £100 in the Royal on tbe house and furniture.

About 1 o'clock on Dec. 25 a cottage /jituated ab the corner of Douglas-stroeb and Richmond Road was discovered by sfime neighbour, to be on lire. The house, which belonged to Mr W. Warnock, was totally destroyed, together with its /contents. The tenant. Mr R. Burns, was away at the time holiday-making, Mr Warnock had an insurance of £100 upon the house in the South British office. The venerable building known as the Howe-street Home was destroyed by fire shortly after four p.m on Thursday, December 24bh. The house belonged to the • Education Board, and was nob insured, the building being a very old one. It was nob occupied by any person, the Kindergarten having been closed some time ago. Tbe Newton Brass Band used the main room to practice in, and unfortunately lost two drums worth aboub £15, a quantity of music valued at about £20, and also £20 worth of uniferms.

Shortly after seven a.m. on January Bth a fire was discovered ab an eight-roomed house in Valley Road, Mounb Roskill, owned and occupied by Mr J. J. Boak, clerk at the warehouse of Messrs Aiacky, Logan, Stein and Co. Mr and Mrs Boak and family have been residing at Lake Takapuna lately, and tbeir house in Valley Road baa bee a shut up. Mr Boak

little furniture was saved. Mr Boak estimates his loss at £250 over and above the insurance. The bouse was insured for £400 and the furniture for £175, in the New Zealand Office.

A destructive fire occurred at Hastings, Napier, ab an early hour on Jan. 19th. The outbreak occurred in Mrs Moore's fruib shop and spread to Merewebher s, dentist; JVI cCorkindale, watchmaker; Plummer, hairdresser; Miss Adams, milliner, all bhe buildings being destroyed before bhe progress of bhe flames could be arrested. Insurances : — McCorkindale: Building, £150 in the South Bribi.h Company ; stock and fibbingf, £200 in the Victoria, £100 in tbe Norbh German and £100 in the Northern Asßuranco. Merewebher, £125 in the South British ; Mies Adams, £500 in the National; Mrs Moore, £50 in the North German. Plummer was not insured.

A disastrous fire occurred at Pahtatua on Jan. 8. Ib broke oub in Knighb and Son's (butchers) shop, which was destroyed, also the premises occupied by Quirk, tobacconist; Brenton, grocer: Parkes, bookmaker; Gelder, fruiterer and fancy goods. The conflagration was stopped after considerable damage had been done to the New Zealand Clothing Factory. The whole block belonged to Miss M. Williams, daughter of Mr T. C. Williams, and was insured in the London, Liverpool, and Globe for £906. Other insurances were: Gelders, stock and furniture, £250 in the South British, £250 in the London, Liverpool and Globe; Brenton, stock £250 in the South Bribi .h ; Parks, £500 on stock in the Northern ; Knighb and Sons, £50 in the Northern Assurance; Quirko, £75 in the Northern Assurance; Blair's Btock (damaged) was insured in the Northern and United, amount unknown. Park estimates his los 3 at £400 over the insurance. Nothing waa saved from Knight's, Quirk's or Brea ton's.
