OBITUARY.
The death in announced of Mr William Frederick Barber, who was doßcended from a military family. He was born in Madras, India, in 1842, and was educated at Circus Place School, Edinburgh, where ho passed hia examinations. He then went to Belvadero College to be trained for the army, but through an injury to his foot ho had to abandon that intention. Ho then came to New Zealand with his uncle, Allan Kerr Taylor, in the ship William Miles in 1862, and settled on his farm ab Mangere, whero he married tha secrsnd daughter of bho late Mr Thomaß White. He waa an old vefearan of the United Cricket Club, lil r Barber had been confined to hia bad for seven months with a painful illness, passing away on October 31, and leaving a widow, three eona and two daughters. Ib will bo seen by our obituary fchab tho only eon of tho late Mr Williams, of Fairfield, Remuera, Mr George Watkin Williams, has passed away, after an illness of only a few days' duration. He was on hia way from Invercargill to Christchurcb, where he had been appointed Chief Surveyor and Commissioner of Crown Lands, a position he had held for some years past), first at Napier, then at Invercargill, whore he will be very much missed by a large circle of friends. Mr Williams entered tho Government service at tho early ago of seventeen. Considerable surprise and regret was occasioned in town when the Mariposa broughb the new 3 thab Mr J. MDargaville, of this city, and a passenger by tho steamer, had died ab sea on Octobor 27th. Dr. L. K. Riloy, surgeon of the Mariposa, sbabed that Mr Dargavillodied of enlargement of the liver, combined with an aggravated form of Bright's disease While on his way to England lately, Mr Dargaville contracted heat apoplexy in the Red Sea, and he never completely recovered from the effect*.
