PROSPECT.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

Kuaotonu, this day.

This mina. comprising an area of 100 acres, is bounded on bhe wesb by tho Mount Aurum and Aorere, south by tho Golden Anchor and Waitaia, and North by the Great Republic. I understand the .first gold discovered on this part of the field was discovered on this ground, those connected with bhe finding of ib ab bhe time being G. Panther, Tom King, and White Brothers, Mercury Bay. The present Company was formed some eight months ago, since when a considerable amount of work has been done. In tho first place, trenching was undertaken on the north side of tho ground, to cub certain reefs known to traverse the spur in that direction. These were duly - found, and good dish prospects being obtainable, it was decided to open them up at a greaber depth, to which end a crosscut was started aba point 150fb below the crown of the hill. This crosscut will intersect bwo reefs, which have been worked in the £T«. I !sv«l. It is

driven from the soubh side of the hill close to the' Golden Anchor boundary, aud the face is in a total distance of 136 ft penetrating a good description of lighb sandstone country. No. 1 level had previously been oDened up some way befere the existing Compapy took over the mine. This face is in 292fb, 270 ft of which is on tho line of reef, which may be considered as averaging ISm right through, of very promising looking quartz, carrying favourable indications, and prospecting in the dish for an ounce bo the boD. A larce quantity of this latter broken from the winze has been stacked in-the end of the level, awaiting developments. The winze referred to is being sunk from bhe No. 1 to connect with the low level for purposes of. ventilation, and also bo open up a block ready for sloping. The No. 2 reef was intersected by a crosscub off No. 1 level aba poinb a few feet back of the winze. It. measures three, feeb in thickness and bhe stone gives dish prospects, lb is running parallel with bhe No. 1 leader, and, from its dip. should juncbion with same lower down.. This theory will be proved when the winzo has proceeded to a sufficient depth.
