The Oyster, Reason. — Henry Arthur and Frank Ryder Davieß were charged thatj on the 4bh July last, at Rakino Island, they had in their possession two sacks of oysters, taken in contravention of the Sea Fisheries Act, 1894. Defendants were also charged with unlawfully taking two sacks of oysters at Rakino Inland. —Mr McAlister appeared for the prosecution (instructed by the Collector of Customs).—Mr Reed appeared for defendants. Defendants gave evidence to the effect that they went into Rakino for shelter, and gave a total. denial of blie charge.—Mr Bush said it appeared to him that the prosecution had proved everything with the exception of seeing defendants actually taking the oystera off, the rocks/. Ho thought it his duty to convict.— Davies was fined 40a on each charge, with costs £4 14s.— Arthur was fined £5 for taking the oysters, £2 for possession, and eoats£4l4a.—OohnClernenbs and Richard Humpuroys ,were charged with unlawfully takinsr four sacks of oj's'ers at.Rangitoto Island on 4th July. Defendants', did not appear, but it was stated that they bad been served with summouaos.
