NORTH NEW ZEALAND GRAND NATIONAL STEEPLECHASE MEETING.
At Ellerslie this morning Dante broke a blood vessel while being galloped. He bad to be pulled up and walked to tbe scrapingdown sheds.
The course proper was thrown open and a lot of fast work was got through. Liberator and Lord of Misrule traversed a round at top, aud Mutiny, Tiritea, and Chris did similar work in company. Hopgarden, Panoply, and Daniel O'Rourke were worked together. Doris and Retribution put in fast seven furlongs, and St. Regol was sent the same journey. Donald McKinnoo worked alone at a strong pace, and Barnardo, Sir Athol and Raupo, went once round at top. St. Kilda did threequarter pace work, and Aughadovery performed serviceable exercise. Waiahu and Dummy did light tasks. Levanter wra worked early. A lot of work was also done after breakfast.
Liberator and Liberator is a strong fancy, and 16 _ to 1 have been accepted about the combination. Tho double of Liberator and Donald McKinnon has been supported at 2Qt. 1. •
