Waihi, thia day. T. Clarkin, the well-known footballer* received serious injury to his lefb eye while loading slabs in Brown _ Bush on. Saburday morning. One of the Blabs slipped and .truck Clarkin's eye, cutting ib righb across.' Dr. Wrighb afforded tho sutferer temporary relief, bub'decided to send him through to Auckland to undergo special treatment at the hands of Dr. Purchas, oculist. Clarkin lefb here on Sunday to catch an early train from Paeroa this morning. Ib is feared Clarkin will lose the sight of the injured eye. Much sympathy is felt for him in the districb, where he is very popular.

William Dixon, a miner, waa received into the Private Hospital on Saturday afternoon from acnte larynxgibrise. Dr. Wright found ib necessary to perform ■tracheotomy. Dixon was in a critical state unbil this morning, when hia condition showed marked improvement.
