NEW ZEALAND MINES IN LONDON.

VFROM OUR OWN COBKESFOSDENT.)

Londok, Jauuary 10. MrR.R. Hunt, of Auckland, left London by the Orient liner Cuzco last week for New Zealand, where he will ropreoent a strong syndicate of capitalists who propose to pat money into approved New Zealand gold j properties, without reference to locality, [Vary probably Mr Hunt's hendquarterj for some time to come will be at the Thames, He has, I may mention, full powers to act for the syndicate which he promoted, with a view to the taking over of, extend* ing, and converting into an electric system, the existing tramway service of Auckland and suburbs. If the business still to bt done in this connection passes off satisfactorily, Mr Hunt will probably figure aa one of the local directors of the new company. Mrs Hunt accompanies her husband back to the colony, and, I think, is cot eorry to bring her stay in the Old Country to an end. THB TATTAPU COMPANY. Mr George Beetham, of Wellington, who played a strong hand in the flotation of the Taitapu Gold Estate Company, tells ma that the prospects of that concern are very rosy according to the news received from Mr Low, the colonial manager. Some samples of quartz from the estate recently teetod gave, I am told, the very satisfactory result of 290z to the ton. Taitapus are notquoted on the Exchange as yet, bat tha news from Mr Low is likely- to make the shareholders consider their shares worth something more than £1 apiece. Mr Beetham, who is a very large tibareholder, certainly thinks ib will be worth while to hold for a stiff premium. Mr Beeaham has, I understand, sundry other New Zealand gold properties whiel he would like to dispose of here, bub, of course, at; the present time cannot mnke any headway with them. He has, however, full faith in a revival of mining enterprise Betting in before long, and hopes to be quit of all his properties before he sets out for the colony in September next.
