AUSTRALASIAN ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS.

The firsb Australasian Championship Meeting was held ab Lancaster Park, Christchurch, on January 2nd and 4bh. Beautiful weather favoured the firsb day, New Zealand gaining 6 points, Victoria 1, AneJ ,Nec South Wales 1, In fche Three

Mile Walk, Creamer, of New Zealand, put up a record for Ausbralasia of 22min 51 2-sbh sec. The second day's evenbs were run in a brisk nor'-wester, and the hurdles had to be held up by main force. The good little men all went down before their more robusb comrades, Low -and Bennebb failing albogebher in the Haif-mile and Three Miles, and Kerr having to rebira after a spill in the long bicycle event. Low's failure enabled Corner, of Sydney, to gain a meriborious win. Bennett, who bad slightly hurt hia ankle, found the gala too much for him; and Bell, of Wellingbon, running very sbrongly, .won as ha lik6d in very fair time. Even then the time was above bhe avorage* Creamer did another fine perfbrmancein bhe Mile Walk, beating the standard, but nob equalling Brady's time of 6min 41sec Ryan had no little difficulty in winning tha Long Jump with the standard performance, and Carbwrighb pub another win to -hia credib in the 220 Yards, also covered in good time. Kerr won the Mile Bicycle after anobher close finish, but in the long evenb came inbo collision with Crow -ab tha bhirbeenbh mile and fell, grinding the dusb inbo his eyes and nearly blinding himself. Afber anobher Jap bo had to leave the track. Bub for the accident he would have won easily. The race degenerated into a farce, as oub of nine starters only'twa were lefb in for bhe last few miles, Petersen* of Napier, evenbually winning by 30 yards. Jones retired early in much distress, being seized by cramp. Kerr has won bhree out of five races ab bhe meeting, and waa second ia another. He ia much too good 'for "fcba p>rosenb class of riders, Jones alone being able bo exbend bhe little Sydney man. NewZealand carried off 5 points on the second day, making 11 in all.
