The dwelling-house of Allan Strang, ab Moboa, near Foxton, has been desbroyed by fire. The loss is esbimabed at £1,000, which ia covered by insurance in bhe London, Liverpool, and Globe office.

A six-roomed dwelling and bakehouße adjoining bhe propsrby of Mr Robb. Warren, ab Havelock, Napier, has been tobally destroyed by fire. The insurance on the houße ia £110 in the New Zealand, and £110 in bhe Phcenix ; furnibure, £110 in the Phrjenix.

A fire broke oub ab Hastings, Hawko's Bay, on the morning of January 22nd, destroying premises in the occupation of Mr Thripp and partially damaging Mr Cobb's photographic sbudio. Thripp's properby waa insured for £100 in the Northern Gompany.

Dunlop's store ab Geraidine Timaru, waß desbroyed by fire on the morning of January 16ch The insurances were: —Royal, £1,000 on stock, £500 on building ; Commercial Union, £1,500 on stock, and £350 on the building. The Royal in parbly re-insured:

Mr W. A. Marriner'a gum and general sbore ab Mounb Wesley, a shorb disfeance below Mangawhare, on the Wairoa River, Kaipara, was burned down on Jan. 21sb. The South British bavo £1,290 on bhe buildings and sbock (parbly reinsured). The Northern have £200 on the buildings.

By a tiro in Hopper-3treeb, Wellington, on bho morning of January 4bh, a fiveroomed house, owned and occupied by Mr Harry Mackay, of tho Lands Transfer Department, was totally destroyed. The building waa insured for £250 in tho Phoenix and £100 in bhe National. The loss is" eßtimated ab £350 above that. Two houses adjoining wero seriously damaged.

A seven-roomed boarding-house in Perco-val-sbreot, Wollingbon, occupied by Mrs McMonan, was totally destroyed by fire on bho nighb of January Bth. Mra MoMenan was uninsured. Mrs McMenan's son was searching for an escape of gas wibh a lighbod match when an explosion occurred, sobbing the bouse on fire and inflicbing a severe scorching on the young man. ,

On January 20th a fire broke oub in bhe upsbairs portion of an ironmonger's shop ab Napior occupied by Mr A. H. Wilson. The upper floor waa gubbed, and mosb of bhe contenbs burned. Tho damage to tho lower parb was oonfined to injury by water, which will bo considerable. The insurances are :—Sbock : Imperial, £500; Sun, £500 ; Standard, £500. Premises : Royal Exchange, £500.

Ab Mataura (Otago) on Jan. 6bh a fire originated in a shop occupied by G. Vicker, hairdresser, and spread to promises occupied by Thoa. Fletcher (solicitor), Yuille (draper), Hall (fruiterer), and Gaulb Bros, (engineera). The insurances were:— Yuille'a premieea, £1,125 in the Local Northern ; Gaulb, £120 in bhe Standard ; Hall, £58 in bhe Victoria. In all cases bhe losses are much above insurances.

By a fire ab Greytown North on Jan. 14bh Baiilie'B bootshop and bho office of bbc Peraianenb Investmenb and Loan Company were totally destroyed. Mr Izard's solicitor's oflico, and Hornblow's cabinetmaker's shop were slierhbly damaged. Baillio was ineured for £150 in fche PSicenix and £250 in the New Zealand. He estimates hiß lo»3 ab £200 above thab. The Loan Company is insured for £150 in bho New Zoaland.

A fire broke out iv O'Sullivan's boarding houso ab Hastings, Napier, on January 14, Inglis' eboro, Blake's store aud an unoccupied restauranb also being destroyed. Tho insurance on O'Sullivan's bouse is £250 iv tho North British, and on tho furniture £100 in the Standard. Inglis is insured for £75 with the South British Company, Scott's restaurant for £50 in the Manchester, and Blake for £60 in tho Alliance Company.

At two a.m. on Jan. 20bh Mullins' Hobol ab Longburn, Palmerston North, waa burned bo bhe ground. Very libtlo was saved. Mullins, wife and child escaped with difficulty. A middle-agod mau named Michael Power, tho only other occupanb, was burnb to death. Hia charred remains wero discovered in the debris. The building v/aa insured for £800 in bho Palatine office and tho furniture for £150 in the Alliance

An olovenroomod house in Queen-sbreob, Cambridge, occupied by Mr Harry Hutchinson, who ropreeenba the Direcb Supply Company, and also trades on his own account, was totally destroyed by fire aboub 3 a.m. on January Ist. Nothing was saved. The house was owned by Mr James Webber, and till lately waa occupied by Dr. Waddington. Insurances are as follows :—House £3CO, and D.S.C. stock £300, in the South British Company; Mr Hutchinson's furniture £150. and stock £200, in the Royal. Mr Hutchinson estimates that tho insurance does nob cover hia loss by between £600 and £700.

A serious fire occured ab Brunnerbon on bhe morning of December 30th, Noonan's Hobal, Macdonnell's store, an unoccupied cottaga owned by Mr Manderson, a store and a dwelliug owned by Mr Jackson were completely demolished. Mr Wilson, lessee of Noonan's Hotel, lost everything. Obhors saved a considerable portion of their personal property. The water supply was inadequate, otherwise tho fire could havo been confined to Noonan's. The insurances are : Noonan's Hotel, £400 in the Manchester Office ; Manderaon's house, £50 in tho Manchester Office ; Macdonnell's, £100 in tho Manchester Office ; Jackson's, £50 in the Soubh British Office and £100 in tho Manchester Office.

A fire broke oub early on January llth in a bwo-sborey building, consisting of a doublo shop and dwelling in Markeb Square, Colombo-street, Christchurch. Ib etarbed in tho portion occupied by D. C. Wilkinson, second-hand dealar, and spread to thab occupied by W. Main, boobmakor, Wilkinson was away from home, tho only occupants being his wife and little g:rl, who jumped from the upper storey through the glass verandah. The girl was badly cut and removed bo the Hospital. Wilkinson saved nothing. Ho was insured tor £130 in bbc Alliance. Main's stock and furniture wera saved, bub were uninsured. The stock of Neab, grocer, on bhe north side was damaged by water. A wooden building to bhe soubh, formerly Victorinn Hotel, was saved by the exertions of tha brigade.

Tbe mosb disastrous fire ever known ab Hamilbon eventuated on the night of December 30bh, causing a loss of over £6,000,1 on which tho insurances tobal £3,125. The tire started ab Mclnfcyre's bobacconiab shop, with a billiard-room attached on tho ground floor. The following are bho insurances (in all cases the buildings and a portion of the contents were destroyed by fire and removal):— Mr D. C. Mclnbyre, tobacconist's shop, billiard room, and dwelling building, £300; billiard tablo, £100 ; stock in brade, £200 ; total, £750 ; wibh bbc Commercial Union. Home's grocery shop and dwelling, £800 on sbock, furnibure, and building, with the North German. Dr. Brewis' building, £600 ; office unknown ; furniburo, £200, Commercial Union. Davey's grocery shop, £575 on Bbock and building in the Norwich Union. Taylor's binsmibb shop, £200 on stock and buildings wibh the Norwich Union. Qualtrough, butchers' shop, uninsured.

Ab 2 a.m. on January 4th the whUble pi the Kanieri, lying ab Onehunga Wharf, cuunded an alarm, followed by the firebell. A number of residenba proceeded to the wharf, when ib was found bhab fire had broken oub somewhere bob ween the boilers and tbe coal-bunkers. When bhe fire brigade arrived on bhe scene, the flames were bursting through the deck. After soma little trouble bhe hose was attached to bhe plugs, and about 5.30 a.m. bhe fire was under conbrol. Tbe damage done was considerable, all tho woodwork aboub the engine-room being burned and parb of the machinery. The Kanieri belongs to the Northern Steamship Company, and waa employed in tha Weob Coasb trade. She was built ab Dumbarton in 18S6, and ia of the following dimensions :— Length, 105fb;, breadbb, 2Mfb; depth, B.7fb; tonnage, 203. All bhe property of tbe men on board was desbroyed—elotbes, bedding, etc. The capbain also lost what property he bad on board. The damage amounted to £2QO or £300. The engines were nob damaged by bhe fire, which was confined.to the midship section of the steamer near bhe coal-bunkers, and did not reach bhe saloon.
