RUMOURED MINISTERIAL CHANGES.
The Agent-Generalship.
Probable Appointment of the Hon. W. P. Reeves.
Wellington, this dayi Rumour is still busy with regard to pend'ng changas in the constitution of the Ministry. It is again Bfcated that Sir Patrick Buckley will, after all, accept the judgghip, his health having very considerably improved. In thab case, lam inclined to think thab the Hon. L. Walker, ot Canterbury, will succeed him.
Ib is also whispered thab Sir Weßfcby ! Percival haa no desire for a renewal of bis term as Agent - General and that he wishos to return to New Zealand. Among his mosb probable successors, 1 fc bink bhe Hon. W. P. Reeves, the present Minister of Education and of Labour, may be placed first. Mr Reeves has many qualifications which eminently fib him for the office* In addition to being a journalist he h» 8 enjoyed a sound business and legal train.
ing. His departure for London would necessitate a new appointment to the
Cabinet.
it is also considered extremely improbable that Mr Cadraan will be able .to again undertake the work of ihe two heavy Departments—Railways and Mines —ove r which he presides. He haa, indeed, ,on various occasions expressed his determination to retire, on accounh of failing health. If he carries out thi3 intention, and the other change indicated come aboub, a complete chang e will, be effected in the personnel of the Ministry.
Probably more will be heard on this matter when the Premier and Treasurer return from their vi3it to Christchurch. Meanwhile I send you tho latest on dits which are exorcising the political world hero.
