LEADING LIGHT.

Syndicabe shares in bhe Leading Lighb freehold are being roadily baken up. The holding consists of 260 acres, situated north of Whangarei Heads, arid "being' freehold posies.es tho advantage of operations nob being hampered by the usual i mining restrictions. Four reefs are known to exist on the property, three of which have been uncovered and worked a little. Assays made have given satisfactory, results, which fully warrant the farther developmenb of the property. This ground was formerly tha property of Mr Charles Spragg, who had such faibh thab gold would be discovered in bhe ground sbsome bime, tbat when ho parted with the freehold, he still reserved mineral rights. Want of capital alone has hitherto prevented the property from being thoroughly prospected. Now, however, money is available, and ib ia to be hoped that a new section of our goldfields will be opened up. OHUT. This is the titlo under which the com-! pany was floated to work the Prospectors claim at Ohui, near Tairua. Some excellent assay returns have boen obtained from ore from this mino. One lot of about 61b of stone was sent to bhe Thames School of Mine., and the resulb to hand shows a value of £17 4. 6d per ton. Mr Galbraith also teated two samples, one of which gave £5 5» 9d, and tho other £24 19s 9d per ton. Sometime ago, 8 tons wore seDt to the Cambria battery, tho yield being £47 15s for bhe 8 tons. ARGOSY. Ab tho office of tbe Campany, Messrs i Jesse King and Co., may be seen specimens recently brought to town by Mr G. W.; Binn.y, Chairman of the Company. A leader, which all along has been gold bearing, laat week developed richer gold, tho importance of which may be gathered from tbe facb thab by driving a short distance ib will junction with tho reel v^hich is of great size. Mining men, whose judgment ia respected, look for great results if the gold continues into the main body. LONE HAND. An extraordinary general meeting of the shareholders in the Lone Hand Goldmining Company waa held ab the office of Mr R. McDonald Scott yesterday afternoon, Mr W. S. Wilson presiding. Tho Chairman explained the position of bhe company, and that tbe directors proposed selling the mine to the May Queon Company. The terms were that the Lone Hand shareholders for every ton shares bhey ab presenb held would receive one May Queen .hare. The resolution empowering tho directors to dispose of the property was then pub and carried, and a vote of thanks bo the Chairman concluded the proceedings. ST. IATRICK. Mr B. Adams has boen appointed to undertake tho temporary direction of works in the St. Patrick mine ab Karangahake. It ia proposed to commence operations on the western boundary, by putting in a crosscut for the purpose of intersecting the big reef, and when this point has boen reached, which should be negotiated in Rbout 150 to 200 feet of driving, there will be something like 100 feeb of backs, with an increasing supply as the drive advances b.llwards. Thore are also good facilities for paddocking ore, and transit by gravitation to any place on the flab handy for battery treatment. The area of bbia mine « 23 acres 0 roods 18 perches, and bhe surplus of the Mere, which virtually belongs to the company, is 9 acres 2 roods 16 perches. WAITEKAURI. A large lode has been intersected in a prospecting crosscub started some weeks ago from bbc Golden Cross lode. Already 10 feet have been driven into this new lode, bub so tar the footwall has not been met With. So far the lode seems to be low )*rade ore, but furbhor developmenb may '-how an improvement,
