At bhe Natal-Transvaal Railway banquebi Mr Chamberlain said thab bhe relabions bebween Greab Bribain and her aubonomous colonies were cribical. The securiby ot Imperial rule depended on bhe bemper and bone in which Greab Bribain appioachod bhe coming problems. The colonists were grown inbo vigoroua peoples wibh every elemenb of nabional life to rank aa nationa, bub as bhe possibiliby of separabion increases, happily bhe desire was lessened and patriotism waa evidenced. He had no doubt of bhe ulbimate union of Africa, bub there would be much difficulty owing to bhe lack of local federation.
