The second trial of the youths Paul Mier, Conroy, and Brown, for the robbery from Cathie's tailor's shop, ended in the accused being found not guilty. The previous jury were unable to agree. The Wellington Chinese are petitioning againsb further oppressive legislation* They state that by the treaty between Britain and China, Chinese subjects may settle in any colony. They claim that they look after their poor- and are good citizens in every respecc, and are nob guilty of immorality. Some 370 Feilding settlers are petitioning for the introduction of the Irish National Text Book into State schools. In the case of B. F. Davy, at the Supreme Court, charged with applying the Werfcheim trademark to string machines, the prosecutor applied to have the case postponed till next session in the absence of material witness. Mr Jellicoe strongly objected, but the judge granted the postponement. Napier, this day. ' John McGuinness, on remand, charged with larceny from W.
