About 1340, prisoners in the Fiji Islands were fattened for ,a feast and then roaetcd alive- The victims had their feeb drawn under their thighs, and their anna placed close beside them. In this position they were bound co tightly thab they could not move a joint. They were then placed in the oven upon hob stones, and covorod with leaves and stones, and co roasted alive. Chinese in Wellington are getting up a counter agitation against the antiChinese Loague by way of a petition. They claim thab their number ia decreasing, thab they pay rates, lends and taxes like others, do nob compete for lower wages, are law abiding, steady, industrious and are wrongly blamed for committing many offences they are not guilty of.
