With the intention of procuring new and good Photographic Pictures for reproduction in the " Now Zealand Graphic," the Proprio^^c has decided to initiate a series of ; v ~ PRIZE COMPETITIONS ; FOR *fAMATEyR PHOTOGRAPHERS. The right to reproduce any photo sent in is retained by the proprietor, who is at liberty to publish reproductions in the " Graphic" or in any other publicationissuedfrom the "Graphic" and Star Offices. Two copies of each photo should be seat .unmounted. Each photo must bo carefully marked on the back with a 710 mdc plume or motto. A scaled envelope wifch the same motto in the right-hand corner, containing .the name of the competitor, should accompany the photo. • Envelopes should be Clearly marked " PhotographicCiJmpctitibn," and addressed to the Editor of the " Graphic," Shortland-street. Pictures that have already been supplied and reproduced in tho colonial illustrated papers, are, of course, disqualified. Special attention should be given to the following Hints on Photographs for Reproduction :—Amateurs are reminded that there is always a slight loss of tone even in the mo3t perfect "process" of reproduction. Photos should therefore be printed as brilliantly as possible. Warm sepia brown or black tones on whitic paper. Skies should be kept as light as possible. Faint, undecided tones—light browns, greys, and bluas—must be avoided ; they- aro useless for reproduction. Bright, criup, sharp prints always make the best reproductions.
