Last evening was tbe occasion of a pleasing ceremony at the Cook-atroeb Hall during bho rehearsal of bhe Auckland Liodortafol, when the popular conductor of that Society, Mr Arthur Towaey, was the recipiont of a silver matchbox, presented to him by the captain of the Chapel-street Drum and Fife Band on behalf of the members, in recognition of the kind services rendered by himself and. members of the Liodertafel in connection with the recent concert given in aid of the funds of tbe above band. Mr Geo. Tbwaitea made an appropriate speech on behalf of the band, to which Mr Towaey gave a suitable reply.

A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Auckland Agricultural Association was hold yesterday afternoon, Mr M. M. Kirkbride presiding. Messrs Jas. Roulstoo (Pukekohe), Walker (Tnkapnna), and W. Flavell (Waiuku) wero elected new members. The Committee considered the Hon. Mr. Larnach'a proposal that the Government should give a £ for £ subsidy to agricultural societies for money expended on the improvement of their show grounds. The proposal was disapproved of. Some correspondence waa read from gentlemen who had been aaked to act as judges at the forthcoming show. Several had to declino owing to engagements- It waa agreed to place Mr Dunwoodie'a name on the schedule as field manager, in order to show his official status and prevent any misunderstanding.
