At a meeting of tho committee of tbe Progressive Liberal Association the Government Licensing Bill was discussed. It waa resolved that tboso clauses referring to majorities were illiberal, inasmuch as the right of the bare mojority to rule was not recognised. The tariff also waa condemned as not tending to foster colonial industries. An elderly woman named Mra Sherwin died euddonly yesterday at a boardinghouse in Durbamrßtreeb; where she only went the previous afternoon. Pdnkdin, this day. At a meeting of tho Trades and Labour Council, it waa aecided to protest against the duty on shirting in the new tariff, as calculated to injure the shirtmaking trade, in which a large number- are employed throughout the colony. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company, it was stated that during the past, year the works had boon fully employed, the number put through being 269,909. The profit waa £1,044, which tho directors proposed to use in reducing tho debt, which will then stand at £4,325. The report was adopted, and Measrs A. C. Begg and E. B. Cargill were re-elected directors.
