In consequence of the lew days fine weather during the past week, good progress has been made with the work in this mine, and the manager expects to start the pump hot later than next Mpnday. A', ■ The shaft is now down about 100 feeb, as three shafts are also working night and day in this mine. About another 50 to 75 ioet of sinking will require to bo done, then a start will be made to drive about 180 feet with a view to cutting the Hauraki reef. Ib is expected this reef should be met with in aboub bhree months, though, of course, it is possible other gold bearing leaders may be cut in the interim.

THE STEAM SERVICE

Mr. Ransom, manager of the Northern S.S Company arrived here on Friday to formally take over the business of the Coromaßdel S.S. Company. Tho people appeared much pleased with the manager, amongab the causes of the good feeling being the facb bhat Mr Ranson promised to pub a eteamer to run in addition to the Coromandel rogular trips. The extra steamer will go tip and down without calling on the way. The necessity for the extra steamer is shown by the facb that there are close upon 500 more people in Coromandel now, than there were :six months ago. •

WAIHI MINES

The Favpna and Brilliant mines, which comprise 100 acres situated on the northeast boundary of the Waihi-Silverton Extended mine ab Waihi, have, it is stated, been floated on the London market through the agency of Sir Julius Vogel. A private cable was received on Saturday, stating thab the; properties have been floated as one, and>the ba&is is thab the new company is to supply £45,000 working capital. The company is to have a capital stock of 150,000 shares.
