At the magiaterial inquiry into the alleged murder of the Infaao Dorothy Edith1 Carter by Minnie and Charlea Dean it was stated thab bhe infanL wsb not the child of, a married woman in Christchurch, and that Mrs Dean did notvgeb any premium with the child. The sum of £10 was to be paid on the Ist of June. The girl Cameron, wh© had been with Mrs Dean fo.nr years, and whose name had b6on used in tho correspondence regarding t<he transfer of the infant, identified the writing of the, letters as Mrs Dean's, and asserted that the Bigna* ture "M. Gray " in the \ ohenaiat's poison book.wa3.alßo her writing. Witnesa was not aboub Dean's house ais the time this ■ correspondence wa» alleged to j)6 going on, and know nothing about it. ■ Bsbher Wallace, a gjrl of 15, who resided; with the Deans, eaid the woman was kind to the; children, and thab she took off her cloak and wrapped it round the infant: Carter while , crossing the paddocks to the bonse on the nlgho she broughb her from the BlnfF.
