BAND OF HOPE UNION.

,The fifteenth annual meeting of the Aucif* ■, land Band of Hope Union, held in ths. Wesley Hall yesterday evening, waß fairly well attended; In the absonce of bhe Pre» sident (Mr D. Goldie) Mr C. G. Hill proaided.

In the annual report read by Ale Macdermobb, containing an exhaustive account^, of bhe work of the year, the various Bands'■'•. of Hope were reported upon very favourably. Coneiderable activity was' stated to exist in most of them, although a few appeared to be skill ■wanting in vitality. In the course of the year 23 of the affiliated societies had, taken 566 - pledges, and the lady district)' visitor to the day - echools reported 77 new plodges during the last quarter. The finances were nob so .satisfactory as at laatr meeting,* tlie subscriptions L being £2 2b 6d less, and ib ; was a matter of some difficulty to make both ends meet. Thanks were re-' turned to all those who had assisted in the work of the year, and-to thei School Committees who had given permission to the lady lecburess (Mrs "Kerr) to address the ■ children after school hours., The Secretary said that all the schools were now open to the lecturesß, except bhe city schools, bub it was intended to have a deputation wait on bhe newly-elecbed City Schools Commibtea to aßk them to allow the same privilege to bhe Union in connection with the schools under their conbroi.

The balance-sheet, submitted /by Mriv Plummer, showed that the bpbal receipt* were £146 9s Id, and there was a debitbalance of £1 14s 2d. The report and balance-sheeb werd adopted.
