The annual soiree and concert of-the Drury Band of Hope was held in the Public Hall on Tuesday,;and was well attended, 140 being present. Tea and other good things were abundantly provided. The 'Rev. The President (Mr May) -■ dfe^vered an addreee, in which.he renewed the;operations of the institution dunng the previous iessibn. J.; Steele presiding, to consider whab steps should be taken to- assist the widows and children oF the brothers Laurie, who were "drowned in the Manukaa Harbour on the <J5tL ult. The following resolutions were passed, on the motion of Mr Lamb. J.P., seconded by Mr Bailey :—l. "That this meeting considering ib desirable bhab some practical expression of sympathy should be shown to the widows and fatherless children of the brothers Arthur and. Fred Laurie, who, with their; eldesb sons, were drowned on April the 25th ulbr, resolve that a subscription fund bd raised on bheir benalf." 2. "That a Committee of the following names, with power to add to bheir number, be appointed to collect eubscriptionßaßp«r resolution and to convene a meeting of the subscribers ab some convenient time and place not later than 28th insb. to allocate the funds subscribed in sach; manner as the meeting shall determine." Collectors were appointed to canvass for subscriptions, which will be acknowledged through bhe Auckland Siab.
