LAWN TENNIS. WEST END CLUB.
The final test match in all classes of sport always creates an , additional amount _of interest, and in tennis there is no exception to the rule. On Saturday last fully 100 visitors were present on the lawn to see the deciding i match for the * Champion Singles played off between Messrs Cooke and Brabant. \ Unfortunately for them, as well as the p^layera, Captain Edwin had changed round l to the north with more rain, which made things anything but pleasant. t ■The first seb was woo by Brabant p— <v Some very good rallies took place in this set, bub the heavy state of the ground debarred either player from showing anything like best form. •: In the second set Cooke managed to score 6—3, making the players one set each. The third arid fourth set fell to? Brabant, 6rr-3," 6—4, thus giving him; the championship. By this win Mr Brabant takes to himself the honor of' being the premier player^pf the , Club'for the, year as well as becoming possessor of the handsome ! gold medal presented by the Club's patron^ Mr Kirk^r. Aoy comment on the individual play would be "unfair considering tbe state of ihe weather. .. C "' The*^ final ■>*■> of Ladies' Champion Singles, which reßte between Mra Newell
