HAMILTON.

Last night a few friends mob Mr Herbert Logic at the Hamilton Hotel and presented him with a purse of sovereigns prior to his leaving for Reef ton. The sum was a subsbantial one, and Mr Logic, who was greatly taken by surprise, feelingly thanked the donors on behalf of himself and Mrs Logic. The change means promotion to Mr Logic, but he ie very sorry indeed to leave 'the'district, where he has lived for ao many years, and where his family have grown up. Mr Salmon is in temporary charge of our office pending the arrival of Mr Logic's successor. Our Hamilton correspondent, writes ua : •• On Tuesday the late Mr Philip LeQuesne was buried in the Hamilton East Cemetery, the body having been brought up from Auckland by tho ordinary train. Tuirty buggies and a very large number of horsemen followed the hearse. Id was, indeed, one of the largest funerals ever seen in our district, and settlers from all parts attended to Bhow their respecb for deceased and his family. Four of his old school chumsMessrs L. B. Harris, junr., Frank Jolly, W. Yon Stunner and R. J. Gwynne — carried the coffin from the train to the hearse, and afterwards to the grave. No man was more popular amongst we Waikato folk than ' Phil,' and few of ub mißsed calling in to see him when in town. He always seemed so pleased to meet any one from this part, and they, too, were often indebted to him for kindnesses done. His early decease is genuinely regretted by a large number of friends, he being one of the sort we can ill afford to spare."
