There was a large attendance at fcheGbif Club's ground on Saturday afternoon bo wibness bbc first match for Mr Allister Clark's prize. The weather was almosb perfecb for the game, bub bhe dryness of the ground rendered the ' putting greens very fast and tricky. Twenty players took -part in the match. Mr H. D. Heather returned a card showing only two down against Colonel Bogey after playing two very good rounds of 45 each, bub he was cleverly defeated by Mr Gillies, who nob only beat Mr Heather's scores bub ended his two rounds with the fine result of one hole up againsb Colonel Bogey, and won the match. Mr Gillies's score of 84 (41 and 43) for bwo rounds, is a record for the links, the previous besb being Mr Heather's score of S7. Mr .Gillies will.; have to play the : winner of the second match (which bakes place nexb monbh) for the final possession of the trophy.
Other scores were: Duthie, 7 down ; Colbeck, 9 down;, A. Heather, 9 down ; Walker, 10 down ; Broad, 10.down; Earl, 10 down ; Russell, 10 down ; Clarke, 11 down ; Norton, 13 down. Of the reinaining eight scores the majority, were 15 down, and several cards were not handed in.. X-/. /
The club has received a reply from the Goyernrrienb offering the piece of railway land'■■ "asked for, on' terms which will rib doubb meeb wibh approval. It the terms are accepted, the construction of the new club-house will be commenced immediately.
