fiNE weather and a large attendance favoured the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club for thotr thirty-first athletic carnival held in the Domain on Saturday .afternoon. passed Dr. Makgill, the positions of tha others .being unchanged. Bradburn retired with the stitch when half of the journey had been braversed, and Moyle and Sbepbenson cried enough during bhe sevenbh lap. At a mile, and a-half Reid,led O'Connor and Beere. Whon two miles had been covered Reid still had command, bub ib was only on sufferance. In the next lap O'Connor went to the fronbj Beere following ab his heels, while Reid and Dr. Makgill were boiling in the rear. These positions remained unchanged until the lasb lap, when ,Beere, 250 yards from home, passed O'Connor, and won by five yards in the time of 15min 57sec. i The firsb and secorfd men were one lap ahead of Reid and Dr. Makgill when they finished. A greab struggle ensued for the third place, and amidst cheering and excibemenb Reid lasted long enough to reach the tape a yard in advance of Dr. Makgill. Both competitors were loudly cheered, arid ab the close they shook hands.

The starters tor the Quarter-Mile Hurdles Handicap were T. Roberts,',W. H. Marbin, E. T. Laurie and A.' Jones. Martin had syds from bhe scratch man, Roberts, and it was thoughb that he would win, bub be fell from the second hurdle from home. E. T. Laurie, who had bhe, liberal handicap of 28yds, won from A.-- Jones by two yards, the previous running in the 120 Yds Hurdles being thus confirmed. Laurie dashed to the fronb soon after the start, arid was never headed, while Roberts, who finished bhird, eased off in bhe run home when pursuit of the two leaders was seen to be hopeless. The time (59sgcs) was very, fast. For the One and a-Half Mile Bicycle Handicap eight sbarted. A. G. Trigg, with 140 yds, won from tho scratch man, Reynolds, in 4min fl^sec Reynolds made a fine spurt in the last lap, but he could nob cabch Trigg, G. R. Wilson finished third.

The 440 Yds Handicap Flab proved the prettiest race of the day, no less than twenty five, competitors taking parb. In bhe early parb of the race/J, A. Rogers became conspicuous, and he led into the turn, where he was challenged by H. V. Buchanan. A. E. Parker also came very strongly at bhis point, and a greab finish to tho tape ensued, ending in Parker defeating Buchanan by a yard, J. A. Rogers an excellent third. Tho scratch man, W. H. Francis, came on tho outside with a splondid run, and finished close up to the placed men. The time was 53 2-sth sec.

Eleven competed in the Five-mile Bicycle Handicap, C, A. Trigg being scratchedP. A. Smitl? (90secs) won by 150 yds from C. R. Wilkinson (60_ecs), T. H. Tidds, the Waikato representative (lOOsecs), being tbird, Reynolds wap among the starters. TheLongJumpwas won by W.E. Hackett with a handicap 3fb 6in. Hacketb jumped 17fb ll.in. This event was put on the programme specially for the champion, 1), L. Ryan, of" Napier, bnt he could nob do better on the ground than 20ft B|in. Fairweather, with 3ft, jumped 17fb lOin, and was placed second. Hackett, of course, won the event.on bis handicap. The programme was brought to a conclusion with the Two-mile Bicycle Tandem Race. H. Surman and C. A. Trigg went to the front in the sixth lap, and won by 100 yds. G. Henning and T. A. Pabterson finished second, and A. J- Pilkington and VV. W. Pilkington third.
