BIG YACHT RACE.
Four boats started for the firsb-nlass yacht, viz., the Mascotte, l<\ rating, scr. ; Maritana, 13 rating, lmin 24sec start; Waitangi, 10 rating, 6min Sosec stars; Pastime, 8-3 rating, 10m 30a. When tho gun was fired, a dead calm provsiled and tho boats lay almost motionless off the starting point. In about half air hour, however, a gentle breeze spr&cg up from the south, and the boats were sr.sn off at a fair pace, the wiDd freshening as they rnada towards the entrance of tLi Harboar, Passing Point Halswell, about =»? miles from the Queen's "Whatf^ the -Ptftatf, which Had caught breeze first, was. front. about 2min" ahead of the Waitaagi, Which.; was a similar distance in front ot'the Masco'tte, the Maritana lying last. ? . -
